Tama producer Mike Grutza recently completed an extensive video project for the National Music Publishers Association. The project, a ten-minute video tribute to songwriter Lamont Dozier was developed using extensive archival footage, stills and several effects sequences.

Mike performed considerable and highly detailed research to locate rare and in some instances, one of a kind footage of Mr. Dozier. The footage was extensively screened and reviewed for the best sequences and clips.

Mike also had extensive contact with various music industry organizations and professionals to research Mr. Dozier's career. Materials were obtained form ASCAP, Motown Records, The Songwriters Hall of Fame, BMI, and Lamont Dozier's personal archives.

The focus of the piece was on Lamont's songwriting and great attention was paid to the audio elements. The audio track contained many old clips of very poor quality. Great care and attention was needed to bring out the original subtleties of the performances.

The final product was screened at NMPA's annual meeting at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills California last June.

The Lamont Dozier tape is the fifth such collaboration between Tama and NMPA, previous honorees have been composer Cy Coleman, songwriters Sammy Cahn, Alan and Marilyn Bergman and BMI President Frances Preston.
